Indian Prairie School District 204 is offering six on-line high school courses for the 2010-2011 school year. Students can register for one course per semester during their course registration process.
The on-line courses offered include:
- Astronomy
- Consumer Economics
- English IV – 20th Century Literature
- English IV – AP
- Health
- U.S. History
The on-line courses will be taught by experienced District 204 high school teachers. The courses are teacher-directed and are not self-paced. Courses start and end with the regular semester schedule.
Daily or weekly homework is required, depending on the course. Total course time (class time and homework) will not be less than the traditional in-school courses. The courses’ content will be delivered through the Blackboard system. Virtual classroom presentations and help sessions will be available.
As registration occurs, a student considering an on-line course should discuss this with a teacher who knows the student’s work habits and academic abilities. Success in an on-line course is determined by the student’s current academic success, ability to consistently meet due dates, and technology at home.
As an additional source of information, Indian Prairie is using a survey of students’ characteristics to determine whether a student may need extra assistance in a course. Students can login to Blackboard (
https://blackboard.ipsd.org) with their student number and school computer password. Once in the system, the student should login to the on-line survey to complete the 27 questions. Directions to access the survey are available in the course registration packet. Results will be returned to the high school guidance offices. See the process outline in the course booklet. Summer School 2010
For Summer School 2010, Astronomy and Consumer Economics will be offered. Tuition is $200 per course. See the associated course booklet.
A middle school mathematics program will be available online. Details will be available later in the year.
Approved Courses
Beginning Summer 2010, credit for on-line courses outside District 204 must be preapproved. A list of preapproved courses will be available April 2010.
